Page 1 of 4 First of all, we know this is a bit of a taboo subject for a lot of websites to discuss, so let us first get into the reasons why you might want to make a backup copy of your DVD.
For us, the big reason is our son.
Our son is addicted to Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank engine DVDs. He loves to watch a short clip or two before he goes to bed.. its his treat for being a good boy. Unfortunately he also loves to take the DVD out of the player and put it into our computer or run around the house holding it in his snotty hand. Result… scratches and expensive DVDs which are rendered useless in a month.
We also travel a fair bit for business and tend to take a DVD or two along with us, to watch on the laptop. This has resulted in many lost (we know someone got lucky and found our Lord of the Rings trilogy at the Sheraton Hotel in Boston!) and damaged DVDs.
With the number of DVDs we have lost or damaged, we figured it was time to get into the world of copying DVDs. Did that open up a pandoras box or what? There are thousands of forum topics and millions of pages dedicated to creating copies. Most of these topics got fairly complex and exotic and our brains began to explode.
So, here is our simple guide to backing up your precious DVDs – done from scratch.
