MySpace has announced that it will be introducing tools for developing games, media-sharing features and other programs to make it resemble Facebook even more closely — and while that wasn’t said in so many words, it certainly was implied. Heavily.
MySpace, while still doing better than Facebook, has slowly made changes in the last few months to make it look and feel that much more than its smaller competitor, making Facebook feel like the belle of the ball.
In May, Facebook opened its platform to developers as well, helping companies like Slide Inc. and iLike.com get much needed attention. MySpace’s announcement is almost definitely a response to that and an attempt for the big social network to get with the times.
MySpace will officially launch the MySpace Developer Platform next Tuesday at a kickoff event and workshop at its new San Francisco office. This is a bit trickier than one might think, as, while the tools needed to create and test programs will be available, users will not be able to integrate them just yet and MySpace has yet to say when they will.
The only thing we hope is that MySpace makes a Scrabulous game. Or sorry, Strapapabalous — which should not at all be confused with Scrabble, Mattel.
