Maka Maka Becomes Open Social - A new API for communities?

Interesting is the least we can say about a pending announcement from Google for an API called OpenSocial (which was scooped by Tech Cruch as being called "Maka Maka" internally)

Apparently this API will allow users of various community and social networking sites to access information from the major social networking sites (FaceBook and MySpace are excluded) externally. This would mean that users of say, GeoExpat.Com (our expatriate community) would be able to access their LinkedIn and other profiles from within GeoExpat (if configured correctly).

All sounds a bit confusing right now.

Vista Upgrade Invalidates XP Key - Solution

Apparently, not many folks are aware of the fact that installing a Windows Vista upgrade on your XP hard drive invalidates your XP key. Which means, once you’ve installed the Vista upgrade, you’re stuck with it and cannot go back to XP.

Microsoft, please and I mean it seriously, please give us one reason to say something positive about you folks this month?

Google Apps - Missing the picture?

img27Google’s recent announcement of its Google Apps for Domains service. Prompted us to go ahead and complete the setup of a test domain that we had setup a few months ago to see how we could use the Apps platform to create and maintain some websites that we own.

First let us take a look at what the service offers, before we go into reasons why we think that Google is missing out on an opportunity — a huge opportunity.

Ning Launches Social Networking Platform

Ning, a company that has an illustrious management team has just launched a new social networking platform. Platform? Well, sort of. While the primary focus of the site seems to be similar to what we’ve seen with other social networks like mySpace / LinkedIn, one of the key differences with what they’re doing is offering premium services to those who want to use their own domain names and run their own advertising on a private label site.

SDIO WiFi Card Announced

Accton, a large Taiwanese ODM / OEM manufacturer has just announced that it will be releasing the world"s first SDIO WiFi card, jointly with PDC. The card is being sampled in February and expected to ship in mass quantities in March.
