Don’t call it an SLR, because it’ll cry — but the Canon PowerShot S3 IS camera is damn close — and you can tell, not only by the price, but by the fantastic quality.

The 6.0-megapixel camera ccomes with a 12x opticall zoom lens with USM and UD lens elements, a 2.0-inch vari-angle LCD display, 20 shooting modes and a penchant to make you cry with pleasure.

The camera uses DIGIC II to enhance performance, and even allows for 2.3-frame-per-second continuous shooting. The cam runs on 4 AA-size batteries — which we personally prefer, as it ensures that, as long as you’re prepared, it’s fairly hard to run out of battery power — and stores images on SD memory cards (a 16 MB card is included, but, you’ll need to buy a bigger one.)

Slightly outdated but still as good as ever, this is the camera you want to get if you’ve always wanted to get into photography but never quite wanted to empty your bank account for it.

Things That Make It Special

  • 6.0-megapixel CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality 14 x 19-inch prints
  • 12x optical zoom lens with USM and UD lens element; 2.0-inch vari-angle LCD display
  • 20 shooting modes and My Colors photo effects
  • DIGIC II, iSAPS, and Flexizone AF/AE for fast, precise results; 2.3-frame-per-second continuous shooting performance
  • Powered by 4 AA-size batteries (alkaline batteries supplied); stores images on SD memory cards (16 MB card included)
  • Makes us feel love again.
