Antikythera Mechanism, World’s First iPod
November 29, 2006
As a tech site, we feel a certain responsibility to report on all gadgetry — even gadgets made pre-Jesus Christ… which isn’t to say that gadgetry got terribly better after Jesus — just that, pre-Jesus was a long time ago. An ancient bronze calculating machine found in a shipwreck (aren’t they all found in shipwrecks?) a century ago is finally revealing its secrets.
ITU Hong Kong
November 29, 2006
Ok, so we’ve scored an invitation to ITU Hong Kong, thanks to our good friends at the CP-TA.
Drop me a line on shri@devlib.org if you are going to be attending.
Promise to blog about any of the not-so-boring stuff, specially if we get invited to any of the parties.
New ST100 Walks and Talks Like Mac Mini
November 22, 2006
It’s hard being Apple these days (the computer, not the girl or the fruit). In fact, it’s a little bit like being the head cheerleader — sure, it’s an honor, but why do all the other cheerleaders have to dress like you? Epson introduced its new Endeavor ST100 PC today, an ultra-compact desktop that will not only directly compete with the Mac mini — it also looks like its long-lost silvery white twin brother.
Fujitsa Designs Turntable Laptop, DJs DJ in DJ Joy
November 20, 2006
Fujitsu’s latest Laptop concept design is so ridiculously cool that it’s hard to actually express the design without squealing with a certain amount of glee. Pitch black, with slickness oozing out of it, the laptop is not only a computer but a DJ media center and girl-magnet all in one (because the ladies love slick laptops.)
Sharper Image iPulse Stereo Speakers Reviews
November 15, 2006
Sure there are dozens of stereo speakers for the iPod — but which one of them have synchronized multi-colored LEDs responding to the rhythm, frequency and volume of the music? Just one — the Sharper Image iPulse.
The iPulse is simultaneously hip and faintly reminiscent of a gadget used in a 70’s Sci-Fi film to show the future — it’s that kind of gadget — and that only adds to its coolness.
$99 Dollar Laptop To Make Appearance on Black Friday, Tramplings Guaranteed
November 15, 2006
Circuit City, bored of the tramplings common to Black Friday — one of the craziest shopping days of the year — has decided to give people even more incentive to come out and kill their friends and family for a cheap trinket — the $99 dollar laptop. That’s right, Circuit City stores will have a $99 laptop computer available for sail on Black Friday once customers sign up with the Internet phone provider Vonage. The laptop will reportedly have four keyboard keys, a 4″ inch screen, and run half of Windows XP (the half that doesn’t work.)
Hamilton Beach 22708 Toastation Toaster Reviews
November 15, 2006
The toaster is one of the greatest inventions ever made - right up there with the wheel, the Internet and escalators - the discovery brought forth an era of peace and prosperity.
Kingston Data Traveler 2 GB Flash Drive Reviews
November 15, 2006
Traveling used to be a lot harder — before you’d have to pack your bags, stuff them into your car and be stuck with them wherever you go.
Kingston Data Traveler 1 GB Flash Drive Reviews
November 15, 2006
Memory is getting cheap and people need a lot of it — the Kingston Data Traveler USB, with its fancy, adventurous name isn’t anything particularly special — but it’s cheap, it’s small, it’s portable, and it holds 1 GB of memory.
Samsung LNS3251D 32″ LCD HDTV Reviews
November 15, 2006
As stylish and pretty as any LCD you’ll find — the Samsung LNS3251D LCD HDTV isn’t huge, at 32″ inches, but it’s image is as good as some of the best screens out there, and it’s a great addition to a dorm room or any apartment (closet) in cities like New York or San Francisco that rent for under five thousand dollars.
The black LCD TV comes integrated with an HDTV tuner, has a 1366 x 768-pixel resolution, 500 cd/m2 of brightness, super-fast 8 ms response time, a 4000:1 contrast ratio, and even a specific Game Mode that optimizes image quality and sound to specifically help you battle the Covenant with your Plasma Rifle in one hand and your high-contrast sticky grenade in the other.
Fantastic picture quality, space-saving size, great for video games and even better for HD DVDs — the LNS3251D is not only worth your time, it’s worth your money.
Things That Make It Special:
* 1366 x 768-pixel resolution, 4000:1 contrast ratio.
* 500 cd/m2 of brightness.
* Fast 8 ms response time.
* Makes Halo prettier than real life.
