Panasonic PT-AE1000U - 1080p LCD Projector debuts, Film Theaters Throw In Towel
October 30, 2006
Panasonic Canada — which is just like the real Panasonic, only more polite and with a great love of hockey — has announced its first LCD home theater projector with 1080p native resolution. The projector, called the PT-AE1000U has a contrast ratio of 11,000:1 with 1,100 lumens of brightness, thanks to Panasonic’s new optical system. The projector is yet another blow against movie theaters, who have resorted to leaving a trail of overpriced popcorn on the streets in hopes that someone will come in, buy a $30 dollar box of Whoppers and watch any number of terrible movies therein.
The new Projector has an optical system that uses Panasonic’s aspherical glass lens system — a technology that’s fully HD-compatible. It also uses new C2Fine HD LCD panels — which are advertised to enhance the black of your blacks.
Furthermore, the device has various new filters that will help enhance colors and contrast, while a technology called, “Smooth Screen” helps reduce the “screen door effect” commonly associated with this type of projector. A waveform monitor system — used mostly by professionals — also measures the brightness output of the video allowing users to personalize their projector and make their films look just how they want them to look.
Finally, the projector has 1,070,000,000 colors (that’s a lot of colors, for anyone wondering) and a 2x powered zoom, allowing the projector to project a 100-inch diagonal image from as far as 1.24 metres from the screen.
Available in mid-November, the $4,999 dollar projector will, if you can afford it, be a fantastic addition to any home — after all, when you have something like this, why go to a filled up theater with crying children, talking people, and food that costs more than your house?
