Aesthetically the 2005FPW features the same styling as other Dell monitors, a simplistic button layout and thin bezel help to enhance its large screen look, which also makes it ideal for those wishing to use more than one display. While the styling does not appeal to everyone it can be said that this model would suit the office more than the home.Ergonomically the 2005FPW is excellent offering many degrees of freedom, a height adjustable stand which can rotate to 90 degrees counter-clockwise, pivot to 90 degrees in either direction and tilt 45 degrees vertically. The most useful is definitely the height adjustment, how useful the other options are to most users is debatable, but at least the choice is there for those that need it.One of the largest advantages of the 2005FPW is the LG.Philips 8 bit Super IPS display, this is important as earlier LCDs featuring sub 20ms response time used 6 bit TN displays. Essentially this was sacrificing colour depth for response time and it’s good to see here that the 2005FPW has sacrificed neither.Although the image reproduction is very subjective, the 2005FPW produced very crisp images with excellent colour depth and using the DVI connection over the VGA is certainly recommended. Furthermore with a quoted response time of 12ms the 2005FPW showed no signs of motion blur from fast motion video or gaming. A note on using the 2005FPW for gaming is that not many games currently support the widescreen aspect ratio and 1680x1050 resolution. This results in the signal being scaled, which reduces quality but here is where another advantage of the 2005FPW becomes apparent. There is a mode to unscale the signal and display it in the centre of the screen in native resolution. Viewing area decreases as a result but users benefit from the higher quality of an unscaled signal.Overall the Dell 2005FPW is a very complete monitor suitable for a multitude of different users, but for gamers it should be noted that single digit response time LCD monitors are becoming more available and these may be even more suited for gaming.
