Looking like something straight off the Star Wars set, the SmartDisk FWFL80 doesn’t so much look futuristic as much as it looks like a gadget made in the 70’s that’s trying to desperately look like it’s futuristic.
But hey, what’s good enough for Chewie is good enough for us.
The FireLite from SmartDisk is a tiny, palm-sized portable HD with 80GB of space and a whole lot of love. You don’t need any software to install it — just plug it in and voila — you’ve got yourself more hard disk space than most laptops. Compatible with everything from Windows 98SE, to ME, to XP, to the Mac OS’s (8.6, 9.x, 10.1 or higher), this little guy is superb if you’re doing a lot of traveling and need to bring all of your important files with you.
Small, cheap, unassuming and capable, the FireLite isn’t a huge HD and won’t necessarily be great for doing anything too big (making movies, for example) — but it will work quite well for most anything else. Even as a media library for all of your legally downloaded films and TV shows.
