The Sony Cybershot DSCP200 is really an amazing little piece of equipment. Packing professional camera properties into its tiny point-and-shoot frame, this is probably one of the best digital cams you’ll find for this price.

Encased within a slim metal body, the camera is stylish, portable and durable.

With a 7.2 megapixel Super HAD CCD and a 3x optical zoom lens, the DSCP200 provides quality that easily defeats any other point-and-shoot camera of the same price. You can view your pictures on the high resolution 2.0″ inch LCD screen, which also allows users to shoot surprisingly high quality MPEG video, and even attach images to emails.

The camera runs on an “InfoLithium battery” which allows users to shoot up to 370 high quality images per charge. Also, running on Sony’s Real Imaging Processor, the camera has minimum shutter lag — and anyone who’s used a point-and-shoot camera knows about shutter lag (namely that it’s awful.).

Want more? Oh, there’s more. A USB 2.0 port can directly connect to a PictBridge printer or hook up to a PC. A Sony Memory Stick is provided for storing images, and you can even view your high-quality MPEG movies on a TV.

The best part of this camera, and really its main selling point, is the amount of manual options it provides. Most point-and-shoot cameras provide only automatic focus, exposure, and so on. Not so with the P200 – as it lets you manually set the exposure, shutter speed, and aperture. This is such a rarity that if there’s one reason why you should choose this camera above others, it’s that.

The quality is amazing. High detail, bright, and vivid — the images are easily better than most other cameras out there of the same price. It’s portable, too, easily fitting into your pocket or bag.

A word of warning, however. Well, two words. Well, it’s more of a paragraph, really. Here it is: the problem with this camera, really, the main problem, is that it has a rather annoying tendency to be blurry. It’s a problem with a lot of similar Sony products. We have found that putting camera on a tripod or being as steady as possible helps a lot — and the problem seems to occur more in some users than others, but it’s really quite irritating when you know what this camera is capable of, and see the kind of pictures that sometimes turn out. The other thing is that, as much as we praise the quality, it isn’t, by any means, a professional camera. This would be a good backup camera to play with for those waiting to get their SLR fixed, but it’s definitely nothing to build your portfolio with.

All in all, however, for this price, this camera delivers more quality and more options than almost anything else out there right now. We highly recommend it — it makes a great gift for friends, family, and definitely for yourself.
