The Sony Ericsson W580i Gray Phone looks deadly serious. Maybe it’s the ashen color — giving it that, “I’m a business-man and never get any sun” kind of look that we all know and love.

Serious or not, the W580i manages to have some fun features. The slick, slide-phone has a 2 MP camera/camcorder, a quick Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR connectivity with music streaming, a Web browser, Memory Stick Micro expansion, and even FM radio with RDS. The quad-band phone has an extremely “shake to shuffle” feature for playing Mp3’s, which lets you skip ahead to a randomly-chosen song with a flick of your wrist (in fancy, Wii-style.) Finally, the AT&T phone is just .55 inches thin, has a nice QVGA screen and EDGE data support.

Packed so full of features it’s almost vomiting them, there’s a reason why this fancy phone will cost you a pretty penny — but it’ll be a pretty penny well-spent. Especially if you can get it for free or for almost-free with a phone plan.

Things That Make It Special

  • Walkman 2.0 Media Player with one-touch music shuffle and dedicated music control keys on the front; integrated FM radio
  • Quad-band connectivity for global roaming and EDGE data network compatibility for AT&T Mobile Music streaming and downloads
  • 2-megapixel camera with video capture; Memory Stick Micro expansion; Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR connectivity with stereo music streaming
  • Built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and Internet surfing; mobile email and messaging via AOL, Yahoo!, and MSN
  • Up to 9 hours of talk time, up to 370 hours (15.4 days) of standby time; up to 20 hours of music playback in Music Mode
  • As serious as gray itself.

    I bought the w580i.

I was really happy with it, with its nice sounding mp3 player and alternating lights in the middle of the open position.
And also its quality clear high resolution screen.

    BUT
Sadly, after a couple of weeks of using it to tex and play purchased java pool games, the number 5 button SPLIT in half………………………………………

    So ive sent it back.lol
It seems a common problem with this phone, so, if you dont want your 5 button to split and you wanna do what i like to do with phones, go 4 the w890 phone like im gonna??
I hav’nt actually got it yet, but the buttons look metal and its got a better camara, plus a higher graded mp3 player. oh, and a tft screen with slighty higher resolution. So, hopefully the games im gonna play will look even nicer.
I forgot to mention thought that this phone is alot more expensive and is not a slider.. The 1 up from the 580, the 910 looks really nice, but i think the buttons r still plstic……that enough wafflin from me…………
    Cheers for reading. mike
