It’s rare for the name “Sony” to not equate with the word, “quality.” And as they have a reputation to uphold, the Sony KLV-26HG2 WEGA flat-panel LCD TV is as quality as quality can get — a gorgeous LCD that makes it extremely difficult to stop watching it no matter what’s on, and if this means watching repeats of MASH, then so be it.
The KLV-26HG2 LCD comes with Sony’s WEGA engine and a variety of other technologies which makes the TV one of the best for its surprisingly low price.
The screen, as with most screens nowadays, uses a 16:9 aspect ratio, offers a 1280 x 768 native pixel resolution, and is compatible with 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i HDTV signals. It has a high brightness of 450 cd/m2, and an extremely quick 16 ms response time — meaning football games and action films will look great. Sony also uses something called, Digital Reality Creation Circuitry, which provides extremely high picture resolution, while Direct Digital II Circuitry increases a video signal’s signal-to-noise ratio — meaning less noise, and richer, more natural images.
LCD screens offer several things that regular CRT monitors and TVs do not — among these are: quiet operation, accurate image geometry, long screen light, light-weight, and no eye strain. This set, like most LCDs, is slim and generally unobtrusive. It uses SRS WOW audio via the sets 4-watt speakers — the sound is surprisingly good, too (of course, anything with the acronym of WOW should have to be at least pretty good.).
The screen even includes a Memory Stick media slot with JPEG/MPEG-1 compatibility — meaning you can have a little show on your shiny new TV by showing pictures and videos from your shiny new digital camera — it’s perfect.
We searched far and wide for problems, but came up with nothing. Simply put, this TV is an amazing piece of technology that offers extremely high-resolution picture for a great low-price. It’s worth buying if you’re in the market for an LCD TV and are working with a budget. We highly recommend it.
