LG’s Multi Hi-Def DVD player plays Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, Human Soul
January 10, 2007
Do you have your aneurysm-preventing high price inhaler ready? Good — because LG’s Blu-Ray/HD DVD combo player is roughly as expensive as it is cool — so, it says quite a bit about the player when you find out it costs $1,199.
We’ll give you a moment to breath.
The Super Multi Blue, launching January and available the first week of February does exactly what its name implies — it can play both Blu-ray discs and HD DVD discs. LG’s CES show included a 1080p LCD and Plasma screens playing Blu-ray films that featured so many vegetables it would make a high definition rabbit salivate — and we have to admit, we salivated just a little bit as well.
The player uses two laser diodes — one blue, one red — that can read both HD-DVD and Blu-ray discs, this does two things — it makes it easier for customers who want to try both BD and HD and it allows LG to make incessant comparisons to Superman.
Did you know that Superman and the Super Multi Blue laser system are nearly a perfect match for one another because of their matching colors? Because it’s true. LG told us so. A lot.
The question, of course, is — is it worth it? Maybe.
We personally would wait for the price to drop, and it will, as more of these types of players become available on the market. Besides that, it’s a fairly new technology that needs to be perfected — we’ve got a gut feeling that this player may just rival the XBox 360 in the amount of meltdowns (and we mean meltdowns in the literal, melting sense) it has.
Right now, we give the Super Multi Blue player four R2-D2’s out of five — it’s cool, but it’s pricey and we’re a little worried about how well it’ll work — being a relatively new technology. However, because the situation demands it, the R2-D2’s are properly coordinated with not only the laser system colors but also with Superman.
After all, have you heard that the Superman and the Super Multi Blue laser system are nearly a perfect match for one another because of their matching colors?
