The Toshiba Qosmio G15-AV501/R is the kind of laptop, that, upon seeing it’s price, has the potential to turn back everyone but the most lavish buyers.

Something to remember, however, is that the Toshiba Qosmio is a traveling media center packed into a laptop — and comes filled with features that are worth the price.

The Qosmio is not only a good computer with a 1.8 GHz Intel Centrino Processor, 512 MB of RAM and 100 GB of hard drive space, but also a media center with a built-in TV and a digital video recorder. The hard drive, specifically large enough to hold movies and shows that you can record straight off the air, is one of the largest found in laptops. The 1.8 Ghz Pentium M (Centrino) chip is extremely fast, allowing users to not only watch television and movies, but also do complex work — from spreadsheets to Powerpoint presentations to databases.

The screen, designed to enhance the experience, is a 17-inch TruBrite with a high 600 NITS brightness rating — which is comparable to some top-of-the-line televisions. And, since a screen like that would be great for gamers too — the G15-AV501/R also comes with an Nvideo Geforce FX Go 5700 graphics card — a powerful 3d card that will be able to handle almost anything you throw at it.

Even the speakers, usually terrible in other notebooks, are fairly good on the Qosimio.

What’s bad? It’s heavy. At 16 and a half pounds, it’s not so much of a “laptop” as it is a “tabletop.” And, as I previously mentioned, the price is extremely steep.

But, if you’re looking for a hardcore media computer that you can also do your work on — the Qosmio is definitely a good choice. If you’re more of a casual user, however, there’s something much lighter and cheaper out there for you.

Things That Make It Special:

* 1.8 GHz Intel Pentium M (Centrino)
* CD-RW Speeds:
-Reads: 40x
-Writes: 16x
-Rewrites: 10x
-DVD-ROM: 8x
* 100 GB HD
* Runs Microsoft XP Media Center Edition
* 16.5 pounds — this makes it special in a bad way.
* 17 in. Screen.
* 1 year Warranty.
* Increases muscle mass if carried more than several feet.
