Wii Accidents - Break something and Win

January 25, 2007

You’ve all been thinking about it, you’ve all been waiting for it — and today, we here at Devlib are making it official. That’s right, today we’re announcing the world’s first Wii-rdest Wii-Struction Contest, where we ask you — our overly enthusiastic Nintendo Wii players — to submit the oddest thing you’ve broken while playing and throwing your Wii-controller in Wii-related Wii-bliss.

Wii-rdest Wii-Struction Contest, Break Something and Win!

nintendo_wii_1For those of you who’ve lived in the Amazonian jungles the past few months, hunting, gathering and avoiding all contact with outside life while you weave a jacket out of a skinned bear — the Wii is the recently released video game console made by Nintendo.

What makes the Wii special, besides the fact that you can’t say the word without using an exclamation point, is the fact that it’s the closest thing to a personal virtual reality gaming experience since the time you dressed up your son in a Yoshi outfit, put him in a go-cart, and had him race your Italian plumber down dangerously steep hills.

The system’s controllers sense motion — meaning, if you’re playing Tennis, you swing the controller to hit the ball, if you’re playing a shooting game, you point at the screen and shoot, if you’re playing Mario, you smash your head into the controller to break bricks — so on and so forth.

The problem, of course, is there has been a growing number of cases where users get so excited that their controllers slip out of their hand and smashing into their HDTV/Wii/Wife.

Which is how we came to our contest. Here are the rules:

The Rules:

Tell us and show us (that’s important — we’ll need pictures) the oddest thing you’ve broken with your Wii controller. Be it a rare vase from Africa or a rare jawbone from your best friend’s face — we’re looking for not only the craziest thing you’ve broken, but the most expensive.

If your daughter has to get braces because of your enthusiastic virtual Tennis-swing, we want to hear from you — if your gold-encased statue of Elvis Presley no longer has a face to connect a mutton chop to — we especially want to hear from you.

The Prize:

A shiny, brand new Wii-controller, shipped to your door with all the love and kindness we can imbue into it.

Because hey, we care.

The Time Frame:

The contest starts February 1st — which is when you will be able to submit pictures of said Wii-struction — and ends March 1st.

Which means that you not only have a month to send something in, you have a month to destroy something rare and priceless with your Wii controller.

Ladies and gentlemen ready? Start your throwing…

Where to start….basically anything and everything. It all started with - slapping my sister across the face while playing tenis
    - mowing my dog off the couch from hittin it with my virtual baseball bat
    - ’sacking’ my older cousin with a full backward swing hand motion, trying to get a strike
All of this and more still to come in my next post..

Got something to say?
