Windows Vienna Tentatively Slated for 2009

micrsft11022Without giving us any time to continue our mocking of Vista, Microsoft’s corporate vice president for Windows development, Ben Fathi, revealed that Windows Vienna — the successor to Vista — will be launching in 2009. Oh, Vista, we hardly even knew you! If all goes as planned, Vienna will not only fix the problems that still haven’t been fixed by Vista, it’ll also create at least seventeen hundred more of them for your general perusal and frustration. We know, we can’t wait either.

A tentative first look at Windows’ next operating system.

Advertised to be as beautiful as Vienna but with more bugs, the new operating system is coming out relatively soon compared to Vista’s release, which came a full five years after XP.

Fathi blamed the Worm of 2003 for the delay of Vista, citing the creation of the XP Service Pack 2 update as a main reason. It’s a good thing they waited so long, however, otherwise who knows — the release of Vista could’ve been played with bugs, update issues and complaints aplenty. Thank God for the Worm of 2003.

“You can think roughly two, two-and-a-half years is a reasonable time frame that our partners can depend on and can work with,” said Faithi, “That’s a good timeframe for refresh.” Later adding, “It might also be a good time to actually fix the same problems we’ve had for the last ten years. That might be a good thing to do also. But you know, we’ll play it by ear.”
